Government Close Down Chinese Company Using Nigerian Workers As Slaves


Hongxing Steel Company, a Chinese-owned manufacturing firm in Lagos has been shut down following reports of human right abuse andrecurring accidental deaths and injuries.

Few months ago, 2 workers died in the company due to harsh working condition.
.
Nigerians hired to work as casual workers at the company accused their Chinese bosses of maltreatment and constant harassment.
.
Lagos-based human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, had also promised to petition the National Human Rights Commission and the Ministry of Labour to ensure measures were taken against the company.
.
Yesterday, Lagos State Government ordered the closure of the company until proper safety standard is put in place.
